'Halal' certification to face 'Haram' tag in UP; Yogi Government contemplating ban

In a significant move, the Yogi Government in Uttar Pradesh is contemplating a ban on the sale of Halal-certified products within the state. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, expressing concern over the sale of Halal-certified vegetarian items like oil, soap, and toothpaste, has instructed officials to initiate appropriate actions. As a result, an FIR has been filed against institutions issuing Halal certificates in compliance with CM Yogi's directives.

On Saturday FIR was lodged against Halal India Private Limited, Chennai, Jamiat Ulema Hind Halal Trust, Delhi, Halal Council of India, Mumbai and Jamiat Ulema Maharashtra besides few others in the Hazratganj police station. The FIR has been lodged under sections 120B, 153A, 298, 384, 420, 467, 468 and 505 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and suggests illegal activities in the sale of products with Halal certificates, targeting customers of a specific religion.

According to the complainant, Shailendra Sharma, these institutions have been illicitly providing Halal certificates to certain products, profiting unlawfully. The alleged fraudulent preparation of Halal certificates has raised concerns of a broader conspiracy, with apprehensions that the generated funds might be used for anti-national activities.

The official spokesperson of the UP Government emphasized CM Yogi's strong stance against this illegal practice, asserting that Halal certificates contribute to the disruption of communal harmony and potentially aid anti-national forces.
